TV One Ice Dome – ice skating in Cathedral Square

If you happen to be in the Cathedral Square check out the Ice Dome which is a special Dome put in the Square as part of the CAF (Christchurch Arts Festival).

I put the skates on tonight at the 7.30 session. The skates are a little uncomfortable but the visual light show which appears on the dome as you skate around in a circle more than makes up for the sore feet in the skates. The She Hot Chocolate was pretty good too.

Cirque du Soleil’s Dralion

Went to Auckland to see the famous Cirque du Soleil show.

Have always wanted to see one of these shows and took the opportunity when it came to New Zealand in Auckland.

The show?

Well you have to see it to believe it. Its amazing.

Great choreography great music, fantastic performance. Very polished show and amazingly orgnaised in every aspect.

Even got a couple of masks as souvenirs. Cool! Must see well worth the ticket price!

Many Voices concert

My friend Yanni and I went to the Many Voices concert at the James Hay Theatre. It was a great performance from many different cultures living in the Christchurch area. There was many performances including singing, dancing, some very cool quick change artists from Russia, drummers which I think were from Japan. Very entertaining evening.

Laughing at Gravity – Circus Oz

Tonight I went to the Circus Oz performance which is part of the Christchurch Arts Festival

Here is a snippet of what it was about……

Circus Oz, the premier national circus of Australia, brings a distinctly Aussie larrikin flavour to the circus spectacle, specialising in frenetic, eye catching acrobatics, breathtaking, death defying stunts, sparkling comedy with a live band that ll have the house begging for more.

I was really impressed with the show. My favourites was the guy that did the freestyle bmx riding and funnily enough he also performed the contact juggling as well.

Auckland trip

Today I booked a flight to Auckland using my Airnz airpoints. I had a few points which were about to expire so I thought I may as well use them up and take a short trip.

Leave to Auckland on 28 Sept at 12.00pm
Return to Christchurch on 01 Oct at 8.45pm

I plan to have a look around Auckland as well as catching up with a few friends. Then on Sat on going to Gods Kitchen party.

Christchurch Gondola

Debs and I went up the Christchurch Gondola today. It’s been a while since I have been up the Gondola so was looking forward to it. I had a couple of free tickets from when I took Olana on the tram for her guidedog training last month.

Was rather windy day, surprising the Gondola did not swing or sway much in the wind at all like I thought it may do. Was windy on the viewing platform at the top though, specially around the Lyttelton side.

Another interesting person we meet up at the top was a blind gentleman with his Dalmatian guidedog which he has had for the past 10 years. The poor little guidedog was finding it rather chilly up the top and was shivering even waiting inside.

Debs purchased the photo’s they take as you jump in the Gondola at the bottom. And then they have them all printed and presented in a nice little folder with cdrom which they try and sell you for only $45. Bargain I thought! NOT

As you can see they super impose the photo’s onto other backgrounds. Not my greatest photo really.

Aurélia’s Oratorio

Tonight I went with Debs to this performance which was again part of the Christchurch Arts Festival.

Whats it about?

A combination of music and physical theatre, Aurélia s Oratorio is a surreal world full of surprises, contradictions, trickery and transformation in an extraordinary interpretation of French lyric theatre created and directed by Victoria Thierrée Chaplin (a pioneer of the famous Cirque Invisible and Cirque Imaginaire) and performed by her daughter Aurélia Thierrée.

How can I describe this performance? Simply put it was all of the following, bizare, weird, strange, funny and different to say the least.

Festival of the lights in Lyttelton

Lyttelton hosted the Festival of Lights which include a street parade and fireworks. I wonder why they call it the festival of lights? Besides the odd business’s and a few residential houses the lights were few and far between. Was a little disappointed to be honest. The rest of the festival had plenty on offer including movies in the movie theatre and of course Winter Solstice.

Project My World

Its not often Christchurch music gets to be filmed for US TV but this Monday night sees the girls of Project MyWorld coming to the Dux-de-Lux, 8:30pm, Monday, 18th June. I was there and it was pretty cool although arrived a little late, but spoke to the hosts which were just lovely. Nuff said!
