Christchurch Gondola

Posted by jman on Saturday, 18 August, 2007

Gondola RideDebs and I went up the Christchurch Gondola today.  It’s been a while since I have been up the Gondola so was looking forward to it.  I had a couple of free tickets from when I took Olana on the tram for her guidedog training last month.

Was rather windy day, surprising the Gondola did not swing or sway much in the wind at all like I thought it may do.  Was windy on the viewing platform at the top though, specially around the Lyttelton side.

Another interesting person we meet up at the top was a blind gentleman with his Dalmatian guidedog which he has had for the past 10 years.  The poor little guidedog was finding it rather chilly up the top and was shivering even waiting inside.

Debs purchased the photo’s they take as you jump in the Gondola at the bottom.  And then they have them all printed and presented in a nice little folder with cdrom which they try and sell you for only $45.  Bargain I thought!  NOT  sc0285b6c3_resize.jpgsc02858fc4_resize.jpg

As you can see they super impose the photo’s onto other backgrounds.  Not my greatest photo really.

Puppy School

Posted by jman on Tuesday, 5 June, 2007

Olana and I went to puppy school at the Blind Foundation in Bristol street.

Olana got to socialise with all the other puppies and have a bit of a refresher lesson.  She was really excited too much so.  She eventually settled down but just wanted to play with all the other puppies.  I’m know she enjoyed it even though it was only about an hour long.

Summit Road drive

Posted by jman on Thursday, 24 May, 2007

I took a Debs a friend from the gym & Olana around the Port Hills and a little tour of the summit road through Lytleton Harbour & out to Godley Head. It was an overcast day but we still had a great view’s of the Southern Alps and could see the Kaikoura Mountain Range from Godley Heads.

Debs gave me an awesome thank you gift. (Totally unnecessary I might add)
It was a total coffee lovers gift pack. Mmmmmmm
Included was a travel mug which has a built in coffee plunger (I had no idea this was possible).
A bag of freshly ground coffee from Coffee house
A special Starbucks coffee measuring spoon

A wicked surprise and a big thank you to Debs.

Olana Vet

Olana after operationToday Olana had her de sexing operation. I picked her up from the vet at 7.00pm. It was so sad to see her in her cage at the vets, she was not herself when she saw me. Very sedated and druppy eyed. Took her home and she slept on the bean bag, she was so tired she could not lift her head to rest comfortably and we needed to slide a pillow under her head to keep her head from falling.

Halswell Quarry walk with Olana

Olana and I went to the Dog Park in Halswell Quarry. I took a book Black belt of the mind which I have just started reading by Dr Fred Grosse .

Took a few photo’s of Olana isn’t she so cute?

Olana Doggie walk

Posted by Admin on Friday, 11 May, 2007

Olana had her doggie walk today out in South Brighton. We walked along Marine Parade for a little bit and around a block which included Bridge St. During the doggie walk we saw some other dogs, Olana of course noticed them but was very content with listening to me and kept on walking. This was great she continues to improve.

Robin from Guidedog Services mentioned after she supervised our walk that Olana just adores me and she can see that Olana and I have a defiant bond together.

“Olana would jump through hops for me”, Robin said.

I thought the positive comments were very reassuring. The effort I put in with training and socialising Olana is certainly paying off. I think Olana really does look up to me and this is an awesome feeling and I feel very privileged to be involved in her training.
